In 1939 L. Khailov entered the Art School Named in the Memory of Victims
of the year 1905. During 1942-1945 he was in the Second World War. After the war
he studied at the Moscow State Art School Named after V.I. Surikov on the Book Graphic
Department. Since 1950 his graphic works have been regularly printed by
newspapers and magazines. Since 1951 he took part in numerous exhibitions - topical,
Moscow, Republican,
All-Union, International.
The book artist counts more than 300 books illustrated by him to his
name. He excels in Indian ink, gouache, water-colouring technique as well as in
linoleum engraving. In 1998 the artist's widow offered his miniatures on bone
to sell by "The Christy" Auction; these were sold out (these being the only
contemporary artists' lot in the Catalogue). The artist's graphic works are displayed
in many museums of Moscow and Russia as well as abroad.
